WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins today accepted the 2006 Friend of the Outdoor Industry Award from the Outdoor Industry Association for her support of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) stateside program and for her commitment to parks and conservation in Maine and throughout the nation. Senator Collins is currently working with the Outdoor Industry Association to secure continued funding for LWCF stateside program. Since its creation by Congress in 1964, the LWCF stateside grants program has helped states and local communities build parks and playing fields, carve out trails, and preserve open spaces in more than 94-percent of America’s counties.
