Senator Collins'' Reaction To President Bush’s Convention Speech

"The most important issues facing American voters this November are which Presidential candidate will be most effective in fighting terrorism to keep our nation as safe as possible and which candidate will keep our nation on the track of economic recovery. Tonight, President Bush presented clear and compelling reasons for the voters to choose his continued leadership for the next four years. He is providing the strong leadership that our country needs at this critical time in our history. It is my view that the President's strong speech tonight will reaffirm to the American public that he should remain our Commander in Chief.

"I found the President's speech to be inspiring, forward-looking, and positive as he outlined his goals for America's future. President Bush came to office with high goals and was successful in working with Congress to accomplish many of them, such as strengthening our national security, providing seniors with a prescription drug benefit, and helping our students by providing unprecedented levels of federal funding.

"President Bush has outlined equally ambitious goals for the next four years. I believe he is the right person to lead our nation as we confront some of the biggest challenges our nation has faced."
