SENATOR COLLINS PRAISES SELECTION OF FORMER MAINE SENATOR GEORGE MITCHELL TO LEAD BASEBALL STEROIDS INVESTIGATION

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins today applauded a decision by Major League Baseball Commissioner, Bud Selig, to hire Former Maine Senator, and Majority Leader, George Mitchell to lead an independent investigation into alleged steroid use in baseball.               “Senator Mitchell brings an outstanding track record of independence and will conduct a fair and thorough investigation.  This investigation is not just about protecting the integrity of records in a game that America loves.  It is about protecting the health and values of a generation of American children who idolize major league baseball players.  Former Senator George Mitchell is an excellent choice to lead this probe. ”
