SENATOR COLLINS PRAISES POLICY TO ALLOW WOMEN TO SERVE ABOARD SUBMARINES

U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today applauded the Pentagon's policy change that will now allow women to serve aboard submarines.

"Women in the military have proven that the most important qualities in getting the job done are a person's dedication, hard work, capability, and rank or position, but not gender," said Senator Collins. "As a member of the Armed Services Committee, I have seen women serve with great skill and pride in troubled regions around the world. I welcome the announcement that female sailors will now be allowed to serve aboard submarines. This will provide even greater opportunities for women to advance through the ranks."
