SENATOR COLLINS MOURNS THE PASSING OF CASPAR WEINBERGER

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released this statement following the death of former U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, who died today at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor at age 88.               “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Caspar Weinberger.  Cap will be remembered as a capable, effective, and well-respected, leader who was dedicated to ensuring that our nation’s military was strong.             Cap’s connection to Maine goes back 30 years when he and his wife, Jane, bought their home in Somesville.  In recent years, it was not uncommon to spot him strolling the sidewalks of Mount Desert Island where he was respected as a kind and unassuming man.                I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Jane and his entire family.”
