Senator Collins Meets with Teachers and Administrators from Maine’s Two National Blue Ribbon Schools in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins met with teachers and administrators from Maine’s two National Blue Ribbon Schools, Coastal Ridge Elementary in York and Minot Consolidated School in Minot, in Washington this week.

“Only 335 schools were recognized nationwide by the Department of Education with the Blue Ribbon designation. This designation is earned through a deep commitment to excellence by both the faculty and the community as a whole.” said Senator Collins. “Coastal Ridge Elementary School and Minot Consolidated School are a reflection of this commitment, and both have built a quality, caring, and supportive educational environment that will help our children grow to become the leaders of tomorrow."

The Blue Ribbon award, created by the Department of Education in 1982, is considered the highest honor an American school can obtain.  Schools singled out for the honor are either academically superior in their states or demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.
