SENATOR COLLINS MEETS WITH PRESIDENT OF BUMBLE BEE FOODS REGARDING CLOSURE OF SARDINE CANNERY

Senator Susan Collins today met with the President of Bumble Bee Foods, Inc., Chris Lischewski, regarding the announced closure of the company’s sardine cannery in Prospect Harbor.

“I had a productive meeting today with Chris Lischewski, the CEO of Bumble Bee, which owns the Prospect Harbor sardine plant that is slated to close.  He assured me that Bumble Bee will fully cooperate with the Governor and local officials as well as the Congressional Delegation in seeking an alternative use of the factory that would sustain many of the jobs.

“At this point, most promising is the possibility of converting the plant to a lobster processing factory that could employ around 100 workers.  I will do all that I can to assist in the negotiations to encourage a lobster processing company to locate its operations at the Bumble Bee plant in order to save these much-needed jobs.”
