Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, met with Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) Commissioner Bruce Van Note and Manager of Legislative and Constituent Services Meghan Russo in her Washington, D.C., office.

“As the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, improving the safety, efficiency, and reliability of transportation infrastructure throughout Maine is one of my top priorities,” said Senator Collins.  “I look forward to my continued work with MaineDOT to secure federal funding for projects that promote public safety and economic development throughout our state.”

Since 2009, when Senator Collins became a member of the Appropriations Committee, she has secured more than $588 million in competitive transportation infrastructure grants for the State of Maine.  Federal competitive grants are a critical component of funding for Maine’s transportation needs.

Last August, Commission Van Note joined Senator Collins at the Casco Bay Lines terminal in Portland to announce a $3.4 million Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant.  In May, Senator Collins and Commissioner Van Note were joined by Secretary Chao in Yarmouth to announce a more than $61 million grant to replace eight bridges in southern, western, and northern Maine.
