WASHINGTON D.C.— U.S. Senator Susan Collins led Maine’s congressional delegation this morning in presenting Steve Levesque, the Executive Director of the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority (MRRA) in Brunswick, with the 2015 Community Leadership Award on behalf of the Association of Defense Communities.

This award is part of the Association’s annual awards program, which recognizes communities, military installations, public officials and military leaders demonstrating strong leadership, innovation and excellence.

In her remarks, Senator Collins stated that she was honored to “express the gratitude that the State of Maine has for Steve Levesque’s service for our great state,” and she commended the Association for recognizing Steve’s outstanding achievements.

Since the closure of the former Naval Air Station Brunswick in 2011, the MRRA has worked diligently to redevelop the former base and transform it into what is now Brunswick Landing. Since the redevelopment began, more than 70 businesses now occupy the former base, creating more than 600 new jobs and providing new services that meet vital community needs.

“Under Steve’s leadership,” Senator Collins continued, “Brunswick Landing supports not only economic growth, but also the services that meet vital community needs. These include a new joint campus of Southern Maine Community College and the University of Maine that focusses on technological fields. A school for children with autism, a center for at-risk teens, and an assisted living housing project are but a few of the ways Brunswick Landing helps create a true sense of community.”
