WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins will host her friend and colleague, U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), for a tour of Bath Iron Works this morning. Senator Wicker is the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Seapower and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Senator Wicker’s Subcommittee oversees all U.S. Navy and Marine Corps programs.
“Senator Wicker and I share a strong commitment to our United States Navy. I am honored to welcome him to Maine and show him both the dedicated workforce and the superior quality ships that have been designed and built at Bath Iron Works for more than 130 years,” Senator Collins stated. “In the Senate, we work cooperatively to ensure that that our sailors are properly resourced and able to execute their critical missions around the world.”
During today's tour of the shipyard, Senator Wicker will see the Zumwalt-class destroyers currently being constructed at BIW. These first-of-class warships are the largest and most technologically advanced destroyers in Navy history.
