SENATOR COLLINS HONORS FORMER SENATOR GEORGE MITCHELL

Washington, DC – Senator Susan Collins today helped to unveil a new portrait of former Senator George Mitchell which will hang in the U.S. Capitol building. The special ceremony took place in the Old Senate Chamber.

Senator Collins released the following statement:

"George Mitchell is a peacemaker, a statesman, and a loyal representative of the State of Maine. The completion of this portrait to hang in the halls of the United States Capitol will serve to remind all of us who walk in his footsteps of the legacy he left and the great things that we can achieve," said Senator Collins. "Senator Mitchell has said, ‘I believe deeply that every single person in this nation has an obligation, a positive duty, to actively participate in preserving and improving our form of government and our way of life.' We are so grateful that he took this challenge for the good of Maine and the country."
