WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Susan Collins today was pleased to greet Seneca Love, a Penobscot Nation student from Indian Island. Love recently won first place in the Grades 3-5 category of the 2006 Native American Student Art Competition. Love was honored during a special awards ceremony at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian. His winning piece is now on display at the museum.
The national competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and Office of Indian Education celebrates education in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. A total of 1,398 entries from 32 states were submitted. Entries were judged on originality, relationship to the contest theme, creativity, composition, and control of materials.
