WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Collins met with Maine’s 2006 Prudential Spirit of Community Honoree, Kerry Kay, of Bath to congratulate her and discuss her volunteer work in Maine. Kerry, 14, is an eighth-grader at Bath Middle School and volunteers at a local nursing home, collects donations for a nearby animal shelter, and makes sandwiches and cakes for local firefighters and policemen. Senator Collins is shown here with Kerry (center) and her mother, Patricia Kay. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represent the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The awards were created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle school and high school students at the local, state and national level for outstanding service to others.
