SENATOR COLLINS EXPRESSES SUPPORT FOR C.F. HATHAWAY EMPLOYEES

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, in response to today's announcement the C.F. Hathaway Co. will be closing its doors later this month, has expressed that she will do everything within her power to support the employees that will be losing their jobs.

"I was throughly dismayed at hearing that Hathaway is ceasing operations," said Senator Collins. "I had worked very hard to ensure that Hathaway's contract bids were competitive. The impact of these job losses on the community, the employees, and their families will be staggering."

Senator Collins has been successful in securing Trade Adjustment funding for the displaced workers from previous layoffs at C.F. Hathaway Co. Senator Collins will again bring the plight of these workers to Secretary Chao of the Department of Labor, expressing to her that there is "not a more pressing issue than addressing the serious impact associated with these job losses."

C.F. Hathaway Co. was the nation's last major manufacturer of men's dress shirts. The company currently has more than 200 workers, along with an estimated 30 managers. The layoffs are scheduled to begin this week as work winds down, with an eventual closure planned for October 18th.
