LL Bean Final

Freeport, ME – Today, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) delivered remarks to more than 300 people at the grand opening of the expanded L.L. Bean headquarters in Freeport.  L.L.Bean invested $110 million into this sprawling, new 390,000-square-foot-campus, which was constructed in part from reused materials from the previous structure.

“With some 80 stores here in the United States and Japan, and a state-of-the-art Website, L.L. Bean has a global reach based upon quality and service,” Senator Collins remarked. “Mainers and visitors alike agree, however, that nothing beats the adventure of shopping here at the flagship store in Freeport.”

“L.L. Bean remains true to its origins, as a steward of our precious environment,” Senator Collins continued. “This marvelous new headquarters incorporates full range of sustainability technologies to protect air, water, wildlife and native plants. Your new facility is a tribute to the spirit and heritage of this company and this community, and I congratulate you all on the successful expansion of your campus.”

Founded in 1912, L.L. Bean now operates 56 stores in 19 states, 12 stores in Canada, and 25 stores in Japan, including its 220,000 square-foot flagship store in Freeport, which has been open 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a year since 1951. The company employs approximately 5,500 employees globally, which includes 4,000 in Maine, 900 of whom will be working in the new headquarters.
