SENATOR COLLINS COSPONSORS ‘NO CHILD LEFT INSIDE’ LEGISLATION

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that she has cosponsored legislation that would help increase the environmental literacy of America’s next generation.  The No Child Left Inside Act was introduced by Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island.

The legislation requires that states develop environmental literacy plans for kindergarten through grade 12 that have been approved by the Secretary of Education.  Following the approval of these plans, the states would then be eligible for implementation grants.  Additionally, non-profit organizations would also be eligible for implementation grant funding to help further the education of the nation’s children.

“I am pleased to cosponsor this legislation,” noted Senator Collins.  “This legislation will give students the knowledge they need to become custodians of our environment.  All too often America’s children are failing to get the environmental education they require and deserve.  The environment has already become critical issue in this century. We must ensure that this next generation has all the skills required to cope with the coming challenges.”
