Senator Collins Congratulates Coats on DNI Nomination: A Terrific Choice of a Seasoned Professional

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, congratulated her friend and former colleague, U.S. Senator Dan Coats, on his nomination for Director of National Intelligence. Senator Collins, along with former U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman, authored the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 that established the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

“I am delighted that my former Intelligence Committee colleague and dear friend, Senator Dan Coats, has been nominated to serve as the Director of National Intelligence by President-Elect Trump. This nomination is a terrific choice of a seasoned professional who will serve our country well. Senator Coats’s extensive public service as Ambassador to Germany, as a House Member and Senator, and as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee will allow him to hit the ground running in this vital position. He understands the complex intelligence issues that our country faces and the need for accurate and complete intelligence assessments to guide policy-makers’ decision-making.”

“I hope he will be confirmed quickly and look forward to working with him in this new capacity.”
