Springvale, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins delivered the keynote address at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery during its Memorial Day event.

“For more than a century and a half, Americans have faithfully kept the trust,” said Senator Collins in her remarks. “From the founding of our nation to today, it is estimated that more than 41 million American men and women have served in uniform and some 1.2 million have made the ultimate sacrifice. This Memorial Day, here and throughout the nation, we honor those who gave their all for all of us.”

Senator Collins was introduced by Army Reserve Sgt. Curtis Mills, treasurer of the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Senator Collins and Sgt. Mills met 20 years ago when Sgt. Mills was being treated at Walter Reed Hospital after surviving a roadside bomb that detonated beneath his Humvee while he was serving in Iraq.
