SENATOR COLLINS APPLAUDS MAINE RECIPIENT OF DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY FELLOWSHIP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Susan Collins today offered congratulations to Oakland, Maine resident Michael Veilleux for being selected for the Department of Energy's 2004 Computational Science Graduate Fellowships. Michael Veilleux is a 1999 Messalonskee High School graduate and is currently studying civil and environmental engineering at Cornell University.

"I congratulate Michael for being selected for this prestigious program," Collins said. "The contributions made by this program and its participants are enabling Americans to continue to be leaders in science and technology

The Fellowship program is funded jointly by the Office of Science and the National Nuclear Security Administration's Office of Defense Programs and supports the education of doctoral students whose work focuses on solving complex problems in science and engineering using high-performance computing technology. Because of the Department of Energy's continuing needs in high-performance computing, the agency has an interest in encouraging the development of the next generation of leaders in computational science.
