SENATOR COLLINS ANNOUNCES USS SAMUEL B. ROBERTS TO VISIT BOOTHBAY HARBOR

U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced today that the U.S. Navy has committed to sending the USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) to pay a port visit to the Town of Boothbay Harbor during the 47th annual Windjammer Days Festival, to be held in June. Senator Collins wrote to the Navy requesting the visit.

"I am pleased that the Navy has agreed to honor our state with this port visit during the popular Windjammer Days Festival in Boothbay Harbor," said Senator Collins. "I am delighted that the Navy has committed to sending the USS Samuel B. Roberts, which was built just a few miles away at Bath Iron Works. This visit is a wonderful opportunity for all us to honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Navy and the talented and dedicated workforce at Bath Iron Works."

The USS Samuel B. Roberts is an Oliver Perry-class guided missile frigate. Built at Bath Iron Works, it was launched on December 8, 1984. In 1988, it was damaged by an Iranian mine while operating in the Persian Gulf. The damaged ship returned to BIW for 13 months of repairs, which were completed weeks ahead of schedule and under-budget.
