Senator Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced today that Admiral Michael Mullen, Chief of Naval Operations, has committed to have a U.S. Navy ship pay a port visit to the Town of Boothbay Harbor during the 45th annual Windjammer Days Festival, to be held in June. Senator Collins wrote to Admiral Mullen requesting the visit.
“I am thrilled that the Navy will once again honor our great state of Maine with this port visit during the wonderful Windjammer Days Festival in Boothbay Harbor,” Senator Collins said. “These visits afford those who serve the U.S. Navy and the citizens they protect an opportunity to come together during these wonderful summer festivities. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I am time and again moved by this proud American tradition, and I thank the U.S. Navy for making this visit possible.”
The Navy says it will release the name of the particular ship that will visit at least 60 days before the start of the festival.
The 2007 Windjammer Days Festival will be held over two days in June in Boothbay Harbor. The popular event includes majestic ships sailing into the harbor in the parade of sail, as well as an antique boat parade, pancake breakfast, shipyard tours, and waterfront concerts.
