U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe and U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that two Maine native American tribes are the recipients of a combined $1,127,241 in grant funding as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Indian Community Block Grant Program. The funds will be used to provide a variety of affordable housing activities.
Specifically, the Penobscot Indian Nation will receive $527,241 while the Pleasant Point Passamaquaddy Tribe will receive $600,000.
“This grant funding will greatly benefit our Native American communities by assisting with the creation and maintenance of safe and affordable housing” noted Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. “We are excited to announce this funding because it will do much good for so many people.”
