"This funding will provide critical support to recruitment, education, and training programs in the health care industry at a time when our state is facing a critical shortage of health care workers," said Senator Collins. "Training workers for secure, high-skilled and well-paying jobs will help mitigate the effect of the growing employment demand for health workers in Maine and across the country."
The funding is being distributed by the U.S. Department of Labor through the Health Care Sector and Other High Growth and Emerging Industries job training grant program, authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Senator Collins helped author this legislation last year.
Partners across the state will benefit from this grant funding, including: the Tri-County Workforce Investment Board, the Central/Western Maine Workforce Investment Board, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Acadia Hospital, Aroostook Medical Center, Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Inland Hospital, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, C.A. Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, Mercy Health System of Maine, the University of Maine system, Husson University, Saint Joseph's College, the Maine Department of Labor - Maine Apprenticeship Program, and the Medical Center College of Nursing and Health Professions.
