Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today that Presque Isle International Airport and Auburn-Lewiston Airport have been awarded a total of $9,988,754.
“Maine’s airports are vital pieces of our state’s transportation network and also promote job creation and economic development throughout the surrounding communities,” said Senator Collins. “This critical funding will allow Presque Isle International Airport and Auburn-Lewiston Airport to make much-needed improvements to their infrastructure, enhancing the safety and efficiency of operations.”
The funding was allocated as follows:
· Presque Isle International Airport received a total of $6,775,998, through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to rehabilitate its apron.
· Auburn-Lewiston Airport received a total of $3,212,756 through AIP to reconstruct runway 17/35.
As Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Collins was instrumental in securing $3.8 billion for the AIP, including $450 million in supplemental AIP grants, in the fiscal year 2020 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill that was approved by the Appropriations Committee last week.
