SENATOR COLLINS ANNOUNCES MORE SCRUTINY FOR WESTERN MAINE OVERFLIGHTS

U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that she has received confirmation that the National Guard Bureau will conduct a full Environmental Impact Statement regarding the proposed change to the CONDOR 1 and 2 airspace in western Maine.

“I believe that more information is needed about the effects of these proposed changes before they can go into place,” said Senator Collins. “I understand the need and importance of providing appropriate training capacity for our Air National Guard, though I ask that the concerns of the State of Maine and its citizens be considered. I am pleased to hear that the National Guard Bureau will be conducting this Environmental Impact Statement.”

In May of 2007, Senator Collins joined with other members of Maine’s Congressional Delegation in drafting a letter to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau requesting the Environmental Impact Statement.
