WASHINGTON, D.C. -Senator Susan Collins today announced that the U.S. Department of Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works (BIW) with $63,689,752 in funding for DDG 51 and FFG 7 Class Integrated Planning Yard Services contract to provide expert design, planning, and material support services for both maintenance and modernization of these ships.
“BIW workers are among the most skilled workers in the world. The ships they build are on the cutting edge of technology and serve to strengthen our country’s national security and its ability to protect our interests overseas,” said Senator Collins. “I will continue to work closely with the Department of Defense to ensure that it recognizes the important contributions that BIW makes to our country’s ability to build and employ the best Navy ships and that it continues to support the work done in this shipyard.”
Work will be performed at Bath Iron Works and is expected to be complete by September 2010.
