Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) awarded $1,305,358 to the Portland International Jetport. The funding will be used to support the installation of a photovoltaic solar panel array on an airport parking garage roof to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“The Portland International Jetport is a vital piece of our transportation infrastructure that helps connect Maine to the rest of the country and the world,” said Senator Collins. “By increasing the Portland Jetport’s energy efficiency, this investment will help improve the airport’s sustainability as it continues to serve passengers and fuel economic growth.”
The grant funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration, an agency within the DOT.
