Washington, DC - Senator Susan Collins today announced that the City of Portland has been awarded $1,522,234 by the Economic Development Administration to support the re-development of Thompson's Point, a former industrial site in Portland, into a mixed-use center for performing arts, professional sports, offices and regional transportation. The new development will be a catalyst for further business development, improve the city's multi-modal transportation center, and serve as an attractive gateway to the city, creating a foundation for future economic growth.
"I am delighted that Portland will be receiving this vital assistance to help turn Thompson's Point into a reinvigorated commercial center," Senator Collins said. "During these difficult economic times, projects such as this one help stimulate our local economy and create new jobs."
On April 27, 2012, Senator Collins wrote a letter to the Economic Development Administration in support of Portland's grant application.
According to the Economic Development Administration, this grant will create approximately 455 jobs and leverage an additional $105 million in private investment.
