Senator Collins Announces Grant Funding For Two Maine Fire Departments

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded two Maine fire departments grant funding through the “Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.” The Old Town Fire Rescue Department will receive $72,675, and the Monroe Fire Department will receive $61,275.

"Our career and volunteer firefighters are among our bravest public servants.  The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is an extremely critical source of funds for our fire and rescue personnel," said Senator Collins.

Funding will be distributed through the Operations and Firefighting Safety Program, which provides for training, equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to the departments' facilities.

Senator Collins has long championed this grant program. These grants are awarded to fire departments across the United States to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, emergency medical service programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety programs, and to purchase new fire equipment.
