Washington, DC - Senator Susan Collins announced today that Cianbro of Pittsfield will help construct the new Southern Maine Postal Processing and Distribution facility. The new 429,000 square-foot facility is going to be built on the border of Scarborough and South Portland. The U.S. Postal Service has approved $82 million in total funding for the project. Construction is expected to begin this summer and to be completed by April 2007. Cianbro is expected to complete approximately thirty percent of the project.
"I am pleased that a Maine company was chosen to take part in this major project. This project will provide good construction jobs for Mainers and a boost to the local economy," said Senator Collins.
Senator Collins is the Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service.
