Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that the Air Force Chief of Staff, General Mark A. Welsh III, will visit the Maine Air National Guard’s 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor on February 18, 2015. The General will tour the Air Wing’s facilities and meet with members of the local community.
"I am so pleased that following my invitation, General Welsh will visit the 101st Air Refueling Wing, affectionately known as the ‘MAINEiacs,’” said Senator Collins. “We are all extremely proud of our MAINEiacs, who have had the highest productivity rate of any similar base in the country and served admirably during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. I am certain that the General will be impressed by their dedication and the support they receive from the local community."
General Welsh’s visit follows a visit to the Air Refueling Wing last year by General Frank J. Grass, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Grass’ visit was also at Senator Collins’ invitation.
Additional details regarding General Welsh’s visit will be released at a later date.
