U.S. Senator Susan Collins released the following statement regarding a deal to extend the payroll tax relief for two months and initiate negotiations on a one-year tax cut extension.
“I am pleased that the House has agreed to pass the two-month payroll tax relief extension we approved in the Senate last week. As they ring in the New Year, Americans will have some relief in knowing they will not face a payroll tax hike. A year-long extension would be far better and that’s what I proposed in the bipartisan jobs bill that I introduced. The Senate and House must work together, and in a bipartisan fashion, to quickly finalize a long-term extension.”
