Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued this statement following the Supreme Court’s decision that the administration cannot immediately proceed with its plan to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals that protects approximately 700,000 Dreamers:
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is positive news for the Dreamers in Maine and across our nation who were brought to the U.S. as children and who know no other country as their home.
“I have long supported a path to citizenship for Dreamers.
“In fact, I was one of the co-authors of the 2018 bipartisan compromise that would have protected DACA recipients and strengthened border security. It was supported by 54 Senators.
“Now that the Court has ruled, Congress should take up legislation like the Dream Act so that these young people can stop living in fear.”
