Senator Collins’ Statement on Confirmation of Merrick Garland as Attorney General

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued the following statement after her vote to confirm Merrick Garland as Attorney General.  Attorney General Garland was confirmed by a vote of 70-30.

“I supported the nomination of Merrick Garland to become the next Attorney General of the United States, and I applaud President Biden for selecting this accomplished jurist and dedicated public servant as our nation’s chief law-enforcement officer.

“Attorney General Garland is well informed, thoughtful, and extraordinarily bright, and I am confident that his reverence for the rule of law and fairness make him the right person to lead the Department of Justice.  His unfailing commitment to justice for all throughout his long and distinguished career should serve our country well.”
