Senator Collins’ Statement in Advance of Veterans Day

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins issued this statement in advance of Veterans Day tomorrow, November 11th:

“Here in Maine and throughout our nation, Americans pause on Veterans Day to honor the brave men and women who have secured our freedom.  We do this because we know we cannot fully enjoy the blessing of liberty without remembering the great price at which it has been purchased.

“Today, nearly 20 million Americans wear the proud title of ‘Veteran.’  Maine is home to more than 114,000 veterans, one of the highest percentages in our entire country.  We are proud of our State’s commitment to protecting our nation.

“The men and women we honor on Veterans Day have paid the price for our freedom in times of conflict, and they are our shield in times of peace.  We honor those who lived beyond their years of military service but who have since passed on.  And we honor those who are with us today.  We owe them all a great debt.”
