WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Angus King (I-Maine) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) applauded the passage of their bipartisan resolution to mark April 21 through April 29 as National Park Week.
This resolution, which was led by Senators King and Steve Daines (R-Mont.) encourages people around the country and world to spend time in America’s treasured national parks. In honor of National Park Week, entrance into all national parks will be free on April 21.
“National parks serve as a reminder of our most important promise: to always leave a better world for our children than the one we inherited,” said Senator King. “For more than a century, these protected lands have been passed from generation to generation, as each new age group takes on the hallowed responsibility to protect them for those who come next. These parks hold a special place in my heart, and in the hearts of countless Americans who’ve been fortunate enough to visit and experience some of the world’s most beautiful scenery. I hope that the people across the nation – from Acadia to Zion – will make the most of our greatest treasures this week by getting to your nearest National Park!”
“National Parks across the country symbolize the cultural heritage of the United States and offer countless opportunities for recreation, volunteerism, and education,” said Senator Collins. “This resolution recognizes the hardworking employees and volunteers of the National Park Service who have shown a strong dedication to preserving the beauty of our National Parks. We encourage everyone to take the time to visit and experience for themselves all that our National Parks have to offer.”
