Senate Passes Collins, Feinstein Resolution Designating March as Women’s History Month

Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day

Washington, D.C. — The Senate unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) designating March 2022 as National Women’s History Month. Senator Angus King (I-ME) was a co-sponsor of the resolution.

“Women’s History Month is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions that women have made to our nation. In 2020, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of American women’s suffrage and finally passed legislation to establish a Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum in our nation’s capital,” said Senator Collins.  “This resolution recognizes the significant accomplishments of American women and serves as a reminder to future generations that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.”

“This resolution pays tribute to the extraordinary achievements of past generations of women while honoring the vital role they have played in the political, economic and social development of the United States,” said Senator Feinstein. “However, while progress has been made, we are still a long way from true equality and need to continue building on past successes. It is my hope that future generations will look back on these accomplishments and be inspired to make the world a better place for all.”

In addition to Senator King, Senators Collins and Feinstein’s resolution was co-sponsored by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Ed Markey (D-MA), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Bob Casey (D-PA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Tom Carper (D-DE), Jack Reed (D-RI), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Mark Warner (D-VA), Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Patty Murray (D-WA), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Gary Peters (D-MI), and John Barrasso (R-WY).
