WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that the Senate Appropriations Committee, at her request, will once again include the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship as part of the State Department’s international education exchange programs, the funding for which was approved by the Committee today. This direction was included as part of the Fiscal Year 2016 State, Foreign Operations & Related Programs Appropriations bill which must now be considered by the full Senate.
The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program, named for former Secretary of State and Maine Senator Edmund S. Muskie, brings emerging leaders in key professional fields from Eurasia and Central Asia to the United States for graduate study.
“This program honors a great Maine statesman by bringing exceptional foreign students to the United States to study in fields such as public policy, law, and journalism,” said Senator Collins.
The Edmund S. Muskie Fellowship is part of the Fulbright Program, an international educational exchange program designed to increase mutual understanding between people of the United States and other countries.
