Washington, D.C. - Last night, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, was recognized as a Congressional Champion at the 2024 U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) Tribute Dinner. Former U.S. Defense Secretary Bill Cohen and President and CEO of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce Deb Neuman delivered video tributes congratulating Senator Collins as part of the event. The dinner honors government officials who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to strengthening the position of the United States on the global stage.

“Thank you to the USGLC for the honor and recognition in tonight’s tribute celebration,” said Senator Collins. “I commend the members of this Coalition for your efforts to strengthen U.S. leadership in the world and keep Americans safe.”

“Susan and I have known each other for 50 years, and during that long journey together, I’ve had a chance to see just how great a public servant she is. She brings intelligence, integrity, and a willingness to work across party lines in order to do something on behalf of the people that she serves in Maine, and certainly the nation,” said Secretary Cohen in his video tribute. “So, congratulations, Senator Collins. You started out as a congressional intern in my office, and after five terms in the Senate, you’re about to become the Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Well done, congratulations. I’m always proud of you.”

Previous USGLC Tribute Dinner honorees include former Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, and Madeleine Albright, President George W. Bush and Mrs. Laura Bush, and then-Vice President Joe Biden. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) and Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY-05) were also honored as Congressional Champions at the USGLC dinner.
