WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins was once again named the second most popular U.S. senator in America in a comprehensive survey conducted by Morning Consult.
The polling found that Senator Collins has an approval rating of 79 percent among registered Maine voters, the second highest in the nation. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was the only senator with a higher rating, receiving 80 percent among registered Vermont voters.
Morning Consult’s previous survey, released in December 2015, also found that Senator Collins was the second most popular U.S. senator with an approval rating of 78 percent among registered Maine voters at that time.
The polling, which was based on the responses of more than 62,000 registered voters in all 50 states between January and April, asked participants whether they approve or disapprove of the job their state’s senators are doing. Voters were identified based on their zip codes and other factors, and each state’s sample was weighted based on gender, age and race, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey.
