PRESIDENT’S BUDGET INCLUDES $28 MILLION TO BUILD NEW HANGAR AT AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE IN BANGOR

U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that the President's Budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2010 includes $28 million to construct a new hangar at the Air National Guard Base in Bangor.

Senator Collins visited the base last year with Lieutenant General Craig McKinley, who was then Director of the Air National Guard, to learn more about the project.

Senator Collins, who worked to include the funding in the President's budget, calls this "excellent news that will help this important project move forward. A new, larger hangar could not only house the KC-135 currently used by the Maine Air Guard, but also larger tankers in the future."

The current hangar was built in 1954. When finished, the new hangar would be large enough to house one KC-45 or two KC-135 aircraft.
