Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Ranking Member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that $394,000 she requested for Safe Voices in Lewiston was included in the draft Fiscal Year 2022 Housing Appropriations bill that has been released by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The legislation must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.
“In my work on this issue, I have learned that no community is immune to the horrors of domestic violence and sex trafficking,” said Senator Collins. “For nearly 45 years, Safe Voices has provided emergency support services for survivors in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. As the appropriations process moves forward, I will continue to champion this investment to help Safe Voices continue its lifesaving mission.”
If enacted into law, Safe Voices will use this funding to support the renovation of a resource center in downtown Lewiston that helps victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking.
