Nearly $400,000 for Safe Voices in Lewiston Secured by Senator Collins

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that $394,000 she requested for Safe Voices in Lewiston was included in the Fiscal Year 2022 Housing Appropriations bill.  As the Ranking Member and lead Republican on the Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Collins co-authored this bill.

The omnibus funding package passed the House and the Senate and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“In my work on this issue, I have learned that no community is immune to the horrors of domestic violence and sex trafficking,” said Senator Collins.  “For nearly 45 years, Safe Voices has provided emergency support services for survivors in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties.  I strongly advocated for this investment to help Safe Voices continue its lifesaving mission.”

Safe Voices will use this funding Senator Collins secured to support the renovation of a resource center in downtown Lewiston that helps victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking.
