The Navy has notified Senator Collins that it has awarded Bath Iron Works $12,550,000 for work related to research, development, test and technical services for the DDG-1000 program. The majority of the work will be performed at BIW. DDG-1000 is the Navy’s next generation destroyer and was previously known as DD(X)               “Release of these dollars is welcome news for BIW and its skilled workers. It also represents the Navy’s ongoing commitment to the DDG-1000 program, which is crucial for the future of the Navy and of our national security,” said Senator Collins.               BIW has been working on detailed design work since last summer. It is expected that the construction contract will be awarded sometime this spring.     ####
