Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Representative Jared Golden announced today that they secured $1,167,036 in dedicated funding as part of the 2023 government funding package for Regional School Unit No. 10 in Rumford.
The funding, passed the Senate yesterday and advanced through the House today, will be used to construct a new Wellness and Fitness Center at the school. The bill is now headed to the president’s desk to be signed into law,
“The town officials and school administrators at RSU #10 work hard to ensure that their students, as well as other residents in the Valley, have access to quality exercise equipment,” said Senators Collins and King and Congressman Golden. “We’ve been proud to work alongside them to secure the funding needed to break ground on this center. We’re grateful for their partnership and advocacy in making this project a reality. ”
RSU 10 is in the process of building a new middle school to serve students in Pre-K through 8th grade in the Mountain Valley region.
This funding secured by Senators Collins and King and Representative Golden will support the school district’s plan to add a Wellness Fitness Center at the new school to house the fitness equipment they currently own across the three schools that are moving into this one.
The Wellness Fitness Center can be used not only by students and school staff, but also by the general public. It will include space for other community wellness activities such as smoking cessation classes and weight loss support.
