WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), and Angus King (I-ME) congratulated the workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) on receiving environmental awards for the fifth year in a row. PNSY received two Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Awards for Natural Resources Conservation and Environmental Restoration for fiscal year 2015 on February 22, 2016.
“The workers at PNSY continue to perform their duties with distinction and excellence, proving once again that they set the gold standard for public shipyards across the country. While earning the shipyard a reputation as the Navy’s Center of Excellence for attack submarine maintenance, the workers at Portsmouth have also demonstrated a strong commitment to conservation and environmental restoration. We applaud the workers at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for their work on behalf of the Navy and for once again demonstrating their stewardship of our environment.”
The shipyard previously won fiscal year 2011 Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) award for Environmental Restoration, fiscal year 2012 CNO award for Environmental Restoration, fiscal year 2013 CNO award for Sustainability, and fiscal year 2014 SECNAV awards for Environmental Restoration and Cultural Resource Management.
