Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Susan Collins met with Art Blank, CEO of Mount Desert Island Hospital; Jeffrey Austin, VP of Government Affairs and Communications of Maine Hospital Association; and Dr. Steve Diaz, CMO of MaineGeneral Health, in her Washington, D.C., office.

“I was delighted to meet with Art, Jeff, and Dr. Diaz to discuss a wide range of challenges facing Maine hospitals,” said Senator Collins. “We had a very productive discussion on ways we can work together to improve our state’s health care system and maintain the financial stability of Maine hospitals, especially those in our rural communities.”

Earlier this year, Senator Collins introduced the Training the Next Generation of Primary Care Doctors Act in response to the severe shortage of physicians that has reached crisis levels in a growing number of communities across the United States, particularly in rural areas.
