Maine Congressional Delegation Statement On The Impact Of The President’s Fiscal Year 2006 Budget Proposal On The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Washington, D.C. – United in their commitment to work on behalf of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and U.S. Representative Tom Allen issued the following joint statement today concerning the President's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2006:

"The President's budget proposal has not altered the fact of the Kittery shipyard's unmatched record for overhauling submarines under budget and ahead of schedule. PNS consistently out-performs all competitors in both the public and private sectors. While the President has proposed a reduction in the construction of new submarines, PNS remains the shipyard which deserves to receive maintenance contracts because of the diligence and hard work of its employees and management. We will continue to work with our colleagues from New Hampshire and other members of Congress and with the greater PNS community to make the case for PNS and assure the shipyard's future workload and prosperity."
