In August, the Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC) voted to keep DFAS Limestone open and to expand it from 360 employees to at least 600. As a result, the Limestone Center can continue its vital role of strengthening the Northern Maine economy while providing exceptional service to the Department of Defense.
During a telephone conversation with Senator Collins, Director Gaddy said he plans to submit his plan to expand DFAS Limestone to the Department of Defense Acquisitions, Technology, and Logistics unit for approval next week. Director Gaddy told Senator Collins his plan includes facility upgrades to enable DFAS Limestone to accommodate slightly more than 600 personnel.
"I am proud of the employees at DFAS Limestone, whom the BRAC Commission recognized as some of the most efficient and effective in the nation in the services they provide to the Department of Defense. The Commission''s decision to expand DFAS from 360 to 600 was great news for our local economy and for the Department. I am pleased that this growth is on track and appreciate the assurances from Director Gaddy that up to 50 jobs could be added at DFAS Limestone by next year," said Senator Collins.
While some of the positions to be added at DFAS Limestone next year are expected to be filled with current DFAS employees who accept the DoD's offer to relocate to Limestone, area residents who want to apply for a job can find more information at www.usajobs.opm.gov.
