WASHINGTON, DC— Senators Susan Collins, Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and Joseph Lieberman, Ranking Member, are pleased to announce that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has agreed to their request to require Hurricane Relief Fraud Hotline posters be displayed by hurricane relief contractors.
The Hurricane Relief Fraud Hotline poster provides contact information to report fraud, waste, and abuse.
In a recent letter to DHS, Senators Collins and Lieberman explained it is in the Government’s best interest to provide for wide distribution of the hotline poster.
“Considering the significant sums of federal dollars spent by agencies to acquire goods and services in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we were surprised to learn that the Hurricane Relief Fraud Hotline poster is not required to be displayed. It is critical for contractors to display the hotline poster to ease the reporting of wrongdoing related to the relief and reconstruction effort as soon as possible,” said Senators Collins and Lieberman.
In agreeing to the Senators request, DHS says it recognizes that the display of these hotline posters is necessary and critical to ensure the quick reporting of wrongdoing related to the relief and reconstruction effort.
